What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a tax relief program offered by the UK government, allowing charities to reclaim tax on donations made by taxpayers. When someone donates to a charity, the charity can claim back 25p for every £1 donated, if the donor is a UK taxpayer.

How Does Gift Aid Work?

• When you make a donation, if you are a UK taxpayer, the mosque can reclaim 25% of the donation amount from HMRC, making your donation go further.
• For example, if you donate £10, the mosque can claim £2.50, meaning your total donation will actually be £12.50 without costing you any extra money.
• This is possible because Gift Aid works by using the tax you’ve already paid to increase your donation.

Eligibility for Gift Aid

To make your donation eligible for Gift Aid, you must meet these conditions:

• You must be a UK taxpayer and have paid enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax to cover the Gift Aid claims on your donations for the year.
• Your donations must be made from your own funds (not from someone else, such as a company or a relative).
• You must have paid tax on the income used to make the donation in the same tax year.
